Open playdowns determine final qualifiers for BC Mixed Championships

Cody Tanaka has another feather in his cap this season – winning the final qualifier spot for the 2019 AMJ Campbell BC Mixed Curling Championship.

The championship takes place at Vancouver Curling Club from April 10-14.

Tanaka skips a Richmond/Tunnel Town mixed team featuring third Kelly Shimizu, second Travis Cameron and lead Megan Daniels.

Tanaka is also the defending champion in this event, having won the title last year with his team of Shawna Jensen, Travis Cameron and Catera Park.

In November, Tanaka won a gold medal at the national Travelers Curling Club championship. And earlier this month he teamed up with Catera Park to win the BC Mixed Doubles championship. He will travel to Mixed Doubles nationals from March 19-24.

His mixed team won the B Event at open playdowns held at Mission Granite Curling Club from March 8-10.

The A Event winners were seasoned curlers from Vancouver Island, Team Craig, featuring skip Miles Craig, third Dailene Pewarchuk, second Dylan Somerton and lead Rachelle Kallechy. The curlers hail from Kerry Park, Juan de Fuca and Victoria curling clubs.

They defeated Andrew Nerpin’s rink 7-5 in the A Event final.
